Greetings from High Commission of India, Nairobi.

 1. The Education Consultants India Limited (EdCIL), a government of India entity, is inviting  applications from Kenyan students for UG, PG & PhD scholarships under the "Study in India (SII)" programme for Academic Year 2021-22. Please find attached the brochure of Study in India.

2.      The SII program offers scholarships on an annual basis, this scholarship scheme covers admission fees, tuition fees, accommodation (room and boarding) costs, and food costs. Any costs and expenses outside the above mentioned are not considered under this scheme. Selection of candidates for award of SII scholarship is based on an online test administered to applicants. Final scholarship allocation is declared based on the merit list prepared. Only the students who qualify the examination are eligible to be awarded scholarships.

3.      The partner institutes (https://www.studyinindia.gov.in/InstituteSearch) also provide tuition fee waivers. Tuition fee waivers are given to deserving students by partner institutes in the ranges of 100%, 50%, and 25%. The number of fee waivers available, vary from institute to institute across the mentioned ranges. List of Indian Universities/Institutes participating in SII programme is also attached.

The PhD programme support offers a full-time opportunity that runs between August 1, 2021 and June 30, 2024. The position is funded for 34 months. The funding that comes through the Food Local Agricultural and Nutritional Diversity (FoodLAND) project is from European Union through Horizon 2020. The PhD scholarship that includes a stipend for 34 months will be awarded to the successful applicant to research on topics aligned to the FoodLAND project.

Study subject: Applied Human Nutrition

 Qualifications: Master’s degree in Applied Human Nutrition and related fields from a recognized university. Must have a BSc degree in Food Nutrition and Dietetics or in Human Nutrition from a recognised university. Preferably with interest in therapeutic and supplementary innovations targeting children and/or diabetic adults.

 Qualifications: Masters degree in Food Science,  Food Safety and related fields from a recognized university. Must have a BSc degree in Food Science and Technology and related fields from a recognised university. Preferably with interest in food related innovations and processing along the value chain and aligned to the FoodLAND project.

TECH4IMPACT SUMMER SCHOOL- OPPORTUNITY FOR 6 MONTHS STUDENTS EXPERIENCE

We are pleased to inform you that the EPFL Tech4Impact initiative and UM6P are organizing a 6-weeks Summer School which will be an immersive virtual experience starting on 28th of June ! The program is open to students from all around the world, we thank you for sharing this information with your students. During this program, the students will get all the necessary tools to implement your ideas into long lasting impact projects. Students will be collaborating in intercultural teams all along the way. Thanks to the weekly workshops, mentoring and peer sharing sessions, the students will be able to turn an idea developed from scratch into a concrete and implementable project that will help to solve the challenges faced by by our partners NGOs : WWF, UNAIDS, MedAir, Terre des Hommes, Selco Foundation and Base. The selected students who want to continue working on their projects can be supported by UM6P’s StartGate and its partner programs.

Early Career Research Fellowships

This Early-Career Research Fellowship is being initiated by the African Research Universities
Alliance (ARUA), with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, to support a total
of thirteen (13) Early-Career Research Fellows to undertake globally competitive research at
the ARUA Centres of Excellence (CoEs). The goal is to strengthen the capacity of early-career
researchers at African universities by giving them time away from teaching responsibilities at
their home institutions while working with very senior and accomplished researchers. Each
CoE is expected to host one research fellow from a country other than where the CoE is located.

Harvard Center for African Studies postdoctoral fellowships

Here is a call that may interest early career researchers from eligible universities:

The Center for African Studies Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program is aimed at providing opportunities for postdoctoral candidates to conduct independent research, publish, and increase knowledge in their fields of study that will be beneficial to the African continent and to prepare them to be successful in their chosen career paths. An applicant should have received their PhD (preference will be given to those who completed PhD in past five years) and hold an academic appointment at a university or research institution in Africa. This includes those with a commitment of appointment at the time of application. The fellowship will support the development of a research project at selected Harvard University schools, departments, or laboratories in the field of their choice.

The program offers 18-month postdoctoral fellowships with 12 months spent at the scholars’ home institution and six months spent in stipend-supported residency at Harvard University. Please consult the list of eligible institutions and eligibility requirements before applying. The program is established for African based researchers who intend to continue/return to work in African academia.

Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI) Grant for Early Career Researchers

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is pleased to announce a new TWAS Research Grant Programme, through the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI). The call for 2021 is now open and will remain open until 27 July 2021.

The programme is specifically aimed at PhD graduates from selected African countries, who obtained their PhD abroad within the last 5 years and returned home within the last 36 months or will return home before the end of 2021.

Attached is a flyer for the programme that can be circulated electronically or printed and put up at university notice boards. We appreciate your help with the dissemination of this new programme.

Innovation accelerator International Internship program; United Nations World Food Program Tanzania Country Office

Greetings from the United Nations World Food Program – Field Innovation Hub Unit Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

 

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The Tanzania Field innovation Hub complements the global WFP Innovation Accelerator based in Munich, Germany. The Accelerator has grown to a team of 50 innovators from diverse backgrounds. WFP believes that new ideas and disruptive approaches are crucial to getting closer to achieving #zerohunger. To this end, WFP’s first Field Innovation Hub (the Hub) was established in Tanzania in 2017. Now in its fourth year, the Hub has laid the groundwork for catalyzing Tanzania’s innovation ecosystem and changing the way WFP approaches both current and future operations. The Tanzania Filed Innovation hub works very closely with the Accelerator and the Country Office team in Tanzania to deliver on its objectives.

The Tanzania Field Innovation Hub is participating in the WFP international internship program which seeks to recruit motivated and qualified candidates to fill positions of the 2021 Policy and Programme Department (PD) Internship Programme from universities across the globe. The program aims to offer the selected candidate(s) a chance to understand WFP’s overall operations and gain first-hand exposure to practical use of innovation methodologies such as HCD and Lean Startup. The internship position will run from June/July this year for a minimum of 3 months and up to 8 months.
