Community Nutrition Problem Diagnosis 2019

The MSc Applied Human Nutrition year one have a unit called Community Nutrition Problem Diagnosis, each year they go for a field trip to different parts of the country.This year's outreach was in Kibwezi, Makueni County, precisely Kikumbulyu location from 16-20th September 2019.The group visited 3 out of seven sub locations; Kathyaka, Ndetani and Ngandani.  They did a household assessment survey on nutritional status of under five year old children, food safety, food security and feeding practices of children. Under one year and under five-year-old children were supplemented with vitamin A supplements throughout the households visited during the survey, with the support of Kibwezi level 4 hospital. The community was educated through public forums where

51 Community members were present at the event held at Kikumbulyu Chief’s Office Grounds. Topics presented were similar to those of assessments. In attendance was area Chief, Sub-county Nutritionist, and Public Health Officer.
