Coffee Business in the Digital Age

Coffee is one of the major industrial crops produced in Kenya. It is the fifth-largest foreign exchange earner after tourism, tea, horticulture and diaspora remittances. Coffee is the mainstay of about 800,000 households mostly rural. In the 70s and 80s, coffee was regarded as the ‘black gold’ because it raked in millions of shillings for the farmers. Kenya was then the top player in the global market and the high-quality coffee from Kenya was highly sought after to blend coffees from other countries.

The DEAN, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. George Chemining’wa and the Chairman, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) Prof. Geoffrey Kironchi, officially opened a workshop on 20th January 2020 at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) Conference Centre, Baringo County, Marigat Town.

Seminar on Advancing Young Women Agribusiness Entrepreneurs and Innovators: A Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and US Initiative.

After a visit to the USA by Kenyan Students a meeting was held at SEMIs-large Hall (College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences) which brought together the Kenyan students and USA Fellows on 24th January 2020 to share their experiences. The main agenda of discussion during the Seminar was; Revisiting Women and agri-entrepreneurship in Kenya and the on-going conversation with the Kenyan and U.S. Fellows.”All the discussion and resolutions were aimed at programmatic efforts to improve women’s agri- entrepreneurship opportunities in Kenya and U.S.
