18th PhD Series Seminar

The 18th PhD seminar was held on 27th Feb 2020 at the Faculty of Agriculture (FOA), College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, University of Nairobi. The seminar started at 9.30 a.m. The seminar brought together postgraduate students from various departments within the FOA, who shared their PhD research findings to staff and students. Coffee Business in the Digital Age

Coffee is one of the major industrial crops produced in Kenya. It is the fifth-largest foreign exchange earner after tourism, tea, horticulture and diaspora remittances. Coffee is the mainstay of about 800,000 households mostly rural. In the 70s and 80s, coffee was regarded as the ‘black gold’ because it raked in millions of shillings for the farmers. Kenya was then the top player in the global market and the high-quality coffee from Kenya was highly sought after to blend coffees from other countries.

Seminar on Advancing Young Women Agribusiness Entrepreneurs and Innovators: A Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and US Initiative.

After a visit to the USA by Kenyan Students a meeting was held at SEMIs-large Hall (College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences) which brought together the Kenyan students and USA Fellows on 24th January 2020 to share their experiences. The main agenda of discussion during the Seminar was; Revisiting Women and agri-entrepreneurship in Kenya and the on-going conversation with the Kenyan and U.S. Fellows.”All the discussion and resolutions were aimed at programmatic efforts to improve women’s agri- entrepreneurship opportunities in Kenya and U.S.

University of Nairobi Fourth Years Students on Study Tour at NEMA - Kajiado County

 Dr.Martin Oulu, Postdoc Researcher & Lecturer Department of Agricultural Economics and Dr. Kirui From Department of LARMAT with fourth year students taking the course AEC 401: Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) went for a study tour to Kajiado on Friday December 6, 2019. The intention was to visit two institutions, NEMA Greenpoint Kajiado, and the Tata Chemicals factory located within Kajiado town.
